It honestly makes me really sad and a little scared that the kids in my generation are so clueless

I mean, I know I obviously dont know everything, but there are just some people(a very large amount of people) my age, younger and even older, who dont know common knowledge.

It makes me incredibly sad that people don’t know who Paul McCartney is. Or John, George or Ringo. It’s sad that a girl in my art class not only did not know who Bruce Springstein was, but also Elton John, the Beach Boys and Whitney Houston.

Music is important.

Just as important as English or History. In school we learn about the presidents, the wars, the formations of political parties. We learn about Shakespeare, Austen, Twain, Dickinson.

In the early years of school we learn basic information about Bach and Handle and Motzart. But that’s usually how far it goes.

Music is important too.

We should be taught how music has affected the world. We should be taught about the evolution of different genres. The reactions of the general public to the risings of certain artists and how that differs from those of today. We should be taught how music has grown and changed into this extremely vast and wonderful thing.

Not everyone likes history or english or science, but I highly doubt you can find someone who doesn’t like music.

Music affects everyone. It helps people. It changes people.

You may argue that, as long as we have the freedom to enjoy it, why do we need to learn about it?

We learn about the evolution of man. We learn how they change and how they grow. We learn about the creation of things and how the world became such an industrialized place.

We dont learn about the industry of music. Music has been around as long as man has. If we learn about the human species, why dont we learn about something that has been here just as long?

Why stop teachings at classical music? Music didn’t end there. We need to be able to appreciate where the things we love came from.

Kids don’t have to like certain genres. Most popular music today is pop and hip hop. I’m not saying they should be forced to listen to things they dont want to.

I’m saying that every single artist today was inspired by other artists, who were inspired by other artists. Tons of artists were inspired by vocalists like Whitney Houston, or groups like The Beatles.

Artists like them changed things. We should be taught how the rise of rock and roll and pop and hiphop affected people. We should be taught how nearly all music stems from one idea that was started hundreds of years ago.

We appreciate George Washington and Abe Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson among others, because of the precedents they set. They did things never done before. They changed our nation and helped it grow.

We should be taught about musicians that changed things and the precedents they set. Musicians that made it okay for you to be able to listen to what you listen to today. Musicians who started movements. Musicians who created genres. Musicians who inspire thousands of people today. Even musicians who inspire one person today.

Because music is important.

Kids should be able to look back and appreciate artists like The Beatles, Elvis, Elton John, Prince, Queen, Run DMC, Nirvana, ect. they don’t have to like them, but at least appreciate them for the things they’ve done.

I’m tired of hearing kids my age saying “Who is *insert older famous important artists*” and then people telling them they’re stupid for not knowing.

It’s not(entirely) their fault that they were never taught who Paul McCartney was.

I’m tired of hearing kids insult older musicians. Musicians who were so influential that they inspired so many other people to make music. Every artist you listen to was inspired by someone. When you insult an artist because you don’t know who they are or what they sound like, you just sound dumb.

These “older artists” were critical in the creation of music today and it’s about damn time we start appreciating them for all that they’ve done for music.

This is a bit random, but

I really don’t understand why everyone is freaking out about how upset they’ll be if media fire gets taken down.

I understand that sometimes you don’t have enough money to buy an album, so you listen to it online, but I don’t understand why you would download every single album you want from file sharing websites.

From 2nd-5th grade I used limewire, mainly because I was young and had absolutely no way of getting money to buy albums. But I also didn’t know better. I didn’t know that downloading from limewire was illegal and I didn’t know that the artists didn’t get paid for illegally downloaded music.

But now I just find it pretty unacceptable. People who use filesharing sites are all old enough to know what it means. It is illegal. Most of us are over 13 and have some way of purchasing music, whether it be from saved money, or because you have a job.

If you really want an album, save money, buy it. Downloading 40 albums a month isn’t cool. We’ve been spoiled. Our illegal activity went unpunished for a very long time. The sharing sites were so easily accessible to anyone who wanted to use them, that we’ve become worried that we might not be able to continue to engage in the illegal activity.

Most people use sites like mediafire because it’s easy, free, and because it’s there. With the thought that it might not be there anymore, people are freaking out.

Why? Is purchasing music and supporting the bands you listen to really that horrible?

When I learned more about limewire in the 5th grade, I stopped using it. I haven’t illegally downloaded something in 5 years. I have over 60 albums. I enjoy saving money to support artists. They work hard, really hard, and don’t deserve their work to be spread without receiving some sort of pay for it.

I don’t understand how you can say you support a musician, yet you whine and complain that you cant steal their music. Cds are wonderful. If you really support the musician and truly want that cd, save money, buy it.

Why would you steal merchandise someone worked hard on, simply because you can

So I had this idea

I need to broaden my music library. I think that since it’s a new year, I should try something new. The first and third Saturday of every month I am going to pick a band that I think I will like, but haven’t listened to that much. For two weeks I will listen to that band and all of their music, and if they have side projects. I will read about them and try to know stuff about them. Then on the third saturday I will pick a new band and repeat the process. The fun part is it could be any band, together or not, so I might be able to find some really great bands that aren’t together anymore.

I may find some bands I really like and that’s exciting. I never give myself time to really enjoy a band if it’s one I only listen to occasionally, so I think this will be good.

I’ve started with The Format, and I have a list that I hope will continue to grow as I go through this.

We’ll see how this works. I’m enjoying it so far.

I hate not having friends that like my music.

Every concert I’ve ever gone to has been with my cousin who is like my best friend, which is awesome because she’s great, but it also sucks. I always feel self conscious when my friends hear the music I listen to, I dont know why„ so I never would bring them to shows. I just wish I had friends that liked the music I like, because my cousin doesnt like some bands that I like, like Jack’s Mannequin, Panic!, Relient K, or soo many others. That’s a lot of concerts she wont go to.

It sucks. If I had more friends who liked my music, then I wouldn’t have to find someone new each year to take to Warped. It’s such a hassle explaining to people’s parents that I’ll be picking their kid up at 7 in the morning on a week day to go two hours away to the shore, to spend the day listening to music with hundreds of other people, and bringing them home at 1 in the morning.

I wish people I liked had good taste.

What really bothers me about all of this AP band thing is that it just isn’t fair.

I understand that it was voted for by the fans, but I think certain fanbases took it too far. It’s expected for you to vote for your favorite band in these polls because you want them to win. However, just because you want them to win doesnt mean the deserve to win. There are certain awards that your favorite band may be applicable for, but others just dont make sense, so why vote for them.

For example I love Yellowcard. You guys know that. But just because I love them does not mean I voted for them in every category. I voted for them in certain things like best drummer, best band, and underrated band. I did not however vote for them for everything. I chose other bands/band members that deserved the award as well.

I would vote for Mackin as friendliest twitterer but not best guitarist.

Just like I would vote All Time Low maybe for best tour for Dirty Work but I definitely wouldn’t vote for them to have Best Merch because their merch isn’t great.

I wouldn’t vote Merchnow to be the best merch site.

I wouldn’t vote these things because they arent true and other candidates deserved them more.

It was selfish of the BvB fans to vote for all of the awards when they didn’t deserve them. I’m sure there may be some they might have deserved, but certainly not all of them.

It was selfish to take away something from other bands that worked hard and deserve it just to give it to a band that only wins because a majority of its fan base is obsessive.

It’s not fair to the other bands that deserve it.

Attention Yellowcard Fans:

myheartbeatsliketimpanidrums:

Ryan Key recently tweeted that his Aunt Steph is not doing well at the moment.

This is the Aunt Steph who supported him when he first got his start in music. This is the Aunt Steph he has written two songs about, “Rock Star Land” and “Sing For Me”.

In his tweet, Ryan included the hashtag #singforme. To let Ryan know that he and his family are in our thoughts, we should try to get #singforme trending.

He has always shown his fans how much he cares for them. It’d be awesome if we could show him how much we care.

I will not be the bitch that ruins their lives.

Not that I want kids. But ya know, if it does happen. They’ll need to see their father at least every once in awhile…

I think Fall Out Boy is super under appreciated in the Pop Punk/Easycore scene. I’ll always have a love for From Under The Cork Tree.
